You’ve heard the old saying “You are what you eat”? Most of us think that that is just a cliche’ but it has never been more true than it is today. With our fast paced lives, more than ever, we are looking for ease and convenience at the sacrifice of our health without realizing how our health is affected by it. Coupled with the fact that the way so many foods are processed and refined and preserved, by the time they are on our dinner table, there is next to no nutrients left in them.
What we eat and drink is our body’s fuel. If we are not putting in the right fuel, we are not going to have the kind of energy we should have, our body systems will not function the way they were meant to, fat will accumulate and muscle will be lost. You are putting yourself at risk for a myriad of diseases. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but I promise you, because everything is accumulative, eventually it will catch up to you in one way or another.
Our nutritional program is called the “Stone Affect” diet. First of all, lets clarify that your “diet” is whatever you eat and drink in a days time. Even though many people believe that it does, it does not mean calorie restriction. I believe that if you are putting in the right foods and avoiding the bad foods that we do not need to count calories. Most weight loss programs concentrate solely on caloric intake. However, because not all calories are created equal, this makes your chance for success on those diets very low and if you do lose weight on them, it will be a short lived, temporary weight loss and you will not feel as good as you would like. Calories are part of the equation but only a small part of the big picture. In most cases its not how much you are eating but WHAT you are eating that causes one to gain weight. Another misconception is that Carbs are bad. They are all not bad. There are good carbs and there are bad carbs and we need to know the difference. We need to lessen or eliminate the bad carbs and increase the good carbs. We need the good carbs because they are our chief source of energy. Additionally, carbohydrates turn into glycogen in our brains which help to keep our brain functioning properly.
The “Stone affect” diet is moderate in protein, high in unrefined complex carbohydrates, low in fat and low glycemic. This is a food plan that can be implemented for good health, weight loss, disease control (type 2 diabetes, heart disease, renal failure etc.) and disease prevention.
